Amazing acts of kindness!
Some of the best memories of our trip are of when people have shown us unnecessary kindness, which sometimes saved our bacon!
In Taupo, New Zealand we met Maggie and her Mum at KFC, and in the conversation that ensued, she kindly offered us a room at her house for when we were staying in Rotorua.
In Placencia, Belize, we were waiting for one of two buses that day, in the wrong place. A local saw us and gave us a lift in his pickup and we made it in time. We would have had to wait 6 hours otherwise!
At Lago de Apoyo, a very nice man gave us a lift out of the national park, saving us a lot of time and making our journey a lot easier, and refused to take any money from us.
On the way to Monteverde we were too late for our connecting bus, but luckily Javi met a bus driver in the petrol station. The guy was clocking off but he agreed to take us 35km of the way for whatever we wanted to pay him.
When we were dropped 35km up into the mountain, it was dark, there were no lights and little did we know that it was still another 7km uphill to reach Monteverde. Luckily a man drove past in a lorry and agreed to take us the rest of the way. He dropped us right at the hostel and wouldn't take our money. He really saved our lives that night, it would have taken us hours to make that climb with our rucksacks.
In Monteverde, the guy at the hostel took pity on us weary travellers and gave us an amazing room at the same price as a dorm.
But it has to be said that many people have been very kind to us. All throughout Central America, locals have been so happy to help us, often going beyond what we needed. Thank you!
