Deaks vs. Fergburger

We'd had a long drive after our day of kayaking on Doubtful Sound, so for our first night in Queenstown we were really rock and roll, and had an early night. The next day though, Fergburger was calling and I couldn't resist the challenge of a Big Al. Fergburger is the legendary burger restaurant in Queenstown and it would pretty much be blasphemy to go to Queenstown and not have a Fergburger. The Big Al consists of the following: 2 8oz patties, 2 eggs, avocado, bacon, cheese and all the trimmings, in a bun the size of your head. You can go all in for the challenge by adding fries, but I just went for the burger, which got very messy, and I'm sad to say that it beat me by about 2 bites, though Ciaran dominated it.

We've been trying to meet up with our friends Sara and Jimmy, who have been doing a very similar route to us. In Melbourne we had a day's crossover and in Sydney a couple of days, but we just hadn't managed to meet up. We finally caught up in Queenstown. I'd Facebook messaged Sara to say that we'd be heading to Fergburger if they fancied joining us for lunch. She hadn't got the message but they walked in anyway, as we were about to hit the Big Als. How random?! So, after our Fergburgers Sara and Jimmy mentioned that there was a drive they wanted to do, up to Glenorchy, and invited us along. The road runs along Lake Wakatipu and ends at Glenorchy and it is ridiculously scenic. If there's no wind, which there wasn't, the reflections on the lake are incredible and the drive is worth it just to see them. There are also a couple of walks you can do when you reach Glenorchy, one is apparently only 35 minutes return but as we found, that one isn't very well signposted and it's therefore very easy to end up on the 2 hour walk!
